Why I stopped making new year resolutions

I look at the arrival of a new year, not just as a change in the calendar but as an opportunity for a fresh start, a chance to embrace the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. For me, the turning of the year is a moment to reflect on the incredible journey behind, celebrate the victories, and set empowering intentions for the path forward.  I do this for every category of my life, including personal finances.

Reflecting on the Journey:

Before diving into the excitement of the upcoming year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the one that’s bidding adieu. Let’s acknowledge the challenges overcome, the strength discovered in moments of vulnerability, and the beautiful tapestry of experiences that have shaped us. Every triumph, every stumble—they have all contributed to the resilient, empowered women that we are today.

Setting Intentions and Goals, Not Resolutions:

While resolutions often carry a weight of rigidity, intentional goal setting offers a more compassionate approach to personal growth. Instead of focusing on strict, all-or-nothing new year resolutions, I set intentional goals by ensuring they are aligned with my values and desires.

Whether it’s cultivating self-love, nurturing relationships, or pursuing a passion, intentional goals provide a beautiful, flexible framework for the journey ahead.

Prioritizing Self-Care:

In the hustle and bustle of daily living, it’s easy to put the needs of others before our own. This year, make a commitment to prioritize self-care. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a book, a brisk walk in nature, or a soothing skincare routine, carving out time for yourself is not just a luxury but a necessity. Remember, a well-nurtured soul radiates strength and positivity.

My intention is to get outside everyday for at least 30 minutes.

Nurturing Sisterhood:

The power of women supporting women is immeasurable. As the new year unfolds, let’s cherish and strengthen the bonds with the incredible women in our lives. Whether it’s our sisters, friends, or mentors, let’s surround ourselves with a supportive network that uplifts, inspires, and celebrates the unique qualities that make each woman extraordinary.

Over the holidays, I had the pleasure of spending time with my friends’ mothers, as well as my own mother in law – just hearing their stories and observing how they navigate life was affirming and so very comforting. Having lost my own mother decades ago, these moments nourished a part of me that I didn’t realize was lacking.

I encourage to reach out to another women today!

Embracing Body Positivity:

This new year, let go of unrealistic beauty standards and embrace the beauty of authenticity. Our body is a vessel that has carried us through every triumph and challenge. Celebrate its strength, resilience, and the stories etched in its curves. Let’s practice gratitude for the incredible things our body allows us to experience, enjoy and achieve.

Cultivating Confidence:

Confidence is not about conforming to external expectations but about embracing our unique self – it’s about embodying the qualities that make us feel strong and confident. Whether it’s a bold fashion choice, speaking our mind, or taking on a new challenge, let this be the year we step into our power unapologetically.

Setting Boundaries:

In a world that often demands constant connectivity, setting boundaries becomes an act of self-love. Let’s be mindful of our energy and time, and learn to say no without guilt. Establishing healthy boundaries is an empowering act that preserves our well-being and allows us to focus on what truly matters.

The Year of Fearless Authenticity:

I encourage you to let this be the year of embracing your authentic self fearlessly. Your quirks, imperfections, and unique perspectives are the ingredients that make you irreplaceable. Share your story, speak your truth, and let your authenticity shine as a beacon of inspiration for others.

As we step into this new year, this new chapter, let’s remember that the journey is ours to shape—full of promise, growth, and the unwavering strength that comes from embracing our authenticity.

Here’s to a year of self-discovery, sisterhood, and the boundless possibilities that await as we embrace the next 365 days.
